v5.5 Release Notes

Enhancements

Pro! Back Office

Passage-Associated Item Actions

Authors working with passage-based items can now perform workflow actions on associated items directly from the Passage Details view, eliminating the need to navigate to and act on each item individually. From the associated items list within a passage, authors may select one or more items and apply an action in a single operation. If no items are selected, the chosen action applies to all items in the list. Selection controls let authors quickly select and clear all items as needed.

Available actions are presented based on the author’s access rights; actions for which the user lacks permission are not displayed. The following bulk actions are supported:

  • Bulk Update — Apply a common field update across the selected items simultaneously.
  • Create/Add to Poolbook — Add the selected items to a new or existing poolbook.
  • Edit Items — Open the selected items for editing.

This capability, previously available in the legacy WPF interface, has been redesigned and delivered within the current HTML-based item authoring framework.

Preview Items — Poolbook Execute Options

Authors can now preview items from within the Poolbook view without opening each item individually. Preview Items has been added to the Poolbook execute options list. Selecting one or more items and invoking Preview Items opens each selected item in its own separate window, allowing authors to review content without leaving their current context. A maximum of 10 items may be previewed at one time. If more than 10 items are selected, a message is displayed and the preview is not launched until the selection is within the allowed limit. This behavior is consistent with the Preview Items functionality available in Item Search Results.

Inline Role Management for Projects

Project managers can now configure team member roles directly from the Item Writers and Reviewers project tabs, without opening each member’s details individually. Role assignment columns in the member listing are now rendered as interactive checkboxes, allowing project managers to update one or more members’ roles in a single pass through the list. Changes are persisted by clicking Save, which is consistent with the rest of the project setup workflow.

A few additional notes on the updated behavior:

  • Columns are fixed — they cannot be removed from the listing, and column management has been removed from this grid.
  • Member name links have been removed — first and last name columns are now display-only, as role configuration no longer requires accessing the member details pop-up.
  • Column filtering, sorting, and export remain fully functional.

Passage Content in Item Reports

Program managers running item reports can now include associated passage content in the Poolbook HTML report output. When an item has an associated passage, the passage is rendered in a dedicated Passage section positioned above the item content. For reports covering multiple items that share a passage, the passage is repeated for each associated item to ensure each item’s output is self-contained and readable in context. Passage content follows the same formatting rules applied to item text, ensuring consistent presentation throughout the report. All existing report functionality is unchanged.

Project Member Search

Project managers can now search for members within Item Writing and Review projects, making it easier to locate specific individuals as project teams grow. A search box has been added to the member listing pop-up. As the project manager types, the list filters in real time across all searchable fields, member name (first and last), email address, and project member identifier. Clearing the search field restores the full member list. This search behavior is consistent with the member search functionality available in User Management.

Search Within Locked Content

Authors can now use the Find function when working with locked item or passage content. Previously, when both passage and item content were locked, all editor toolbar controls, including Find, were disabled, preventing authors from searching within the content. Find is now accessible regardless of the content’s lock state, allowing authors to locate specific text within locked passages and items.

Item Quick Search by Master Code

Authors can now retrieve items by master code without navigating through the full Item Search criteria page. The Item Quick Search control allows users to enter a single master code or a comma-separated list of master codes and click the search button to immediately retrieve matching results. Results are displayed in the standard Item Search Results view, identical to a search performed through the Item Search criteria page. Item Quick Search is always visible and is governed by the existing Item Search permission.

Classification Assignments Display on Item Authoring Page

An item’s assigned classifications are now visible directly on the item’s detail page, allowing authors to view classification assignments alongside item content without navigating away. The classification display updates dynamically any modifications or removals made to an item’s classifications are reflected immediately without requiring a page reload.

User Deletion — Account Provisioning and User Management

When a Pro! provisioned user is deleted from Account Provisioning, the existing user in User Management is removed as well, eliminating the need for a separate deletion step. Before deletion, a confirmation prompt warns the administrator that the action is permanent and provides the option to cancel before proceeding.

Test! Candidate Notepad — Exam Section Setting

Test publishers can now optionally enable a Notepad for Test! candidates on a per-section basis. When enabled, Test! candidates have access to a dedicated area within the exam interface in which they can enter notes during their session.

Maintenance

Pro! Back Office

  • All section lists within User Management are now displayed in ascending alphabetical order.

  • Resolved an issue in Account Provisioning where performing certain user account updates, such as changing a user’s email address or flagging a requirement to change their password on next login, would incorrectly truncate the user’s UPN by removing the domain suffix.
  • Resolved an issue where running an AI feature would cause the process list to initially display a status of “Ended in Error” before eventually updating to reflect successful completion.
  • Resolved an issue where the invocation of an AI feature was not writing an audit record.
  • Resolved an issue in the All Roles tab within User Management where only a subset of users assigned to a role were being displayed, both on the role listing page and within the Manage Users pop-up.
  • Resolved an issue where exporting from the User Management screen would only include the first 25 users in the exported file. All users are now included in the export
  • Account Provisioning – Resolved an issue where navigating to another user record after updating the Must Change Password checkbox triggered an unnecessary pending changes confirmation prompt. Changes made to this field are now automatically persisted, and no confirmation is shown when selecting another user for editing.
  • User Management – Resolved an issue where a new user record could be saved with only an email address, bypassing validation for other required fields. Name, role, and section are now enforced as required fields upon save, consistent with the existing validation applied to the email address field.
  • Resolved an issue where importing items via VIIF file caused the import process to incorrectly wrap image tags with anchor tags in passage, stem, and option content.

Pro! Remote Item Authoring and Review

  • In Remote Item Writing (RIW), the button used to commit a comment has been renamed from Submit to Save. This applies to both new comments and comments being edited.

  • In Remote Item Writing (RIW), the button used to commit a reference note or an approved reference has been renamed from Submit to Save. This applies to both new references and references being edited.
  • Resolved an issue where the classification value popup did not display a vertical scroll bar when the number of available values exceeded the visible area of the popup. The scroll bar now appears as expected, ensuring all values in a classification set are accessible.
  • Item Review Comparison – Resolved an issue where a subject matter expert’s change to the answer key on a newly added answer choice was not visually indicated in the item comparison view. The comparison now correctly reflects answer key changes for added answer choices alongside the answer choice content itself.
  • Item Review Comparison — Resolved an issue where passage-associated items appeared as edited in the comparison view despite never having been opened or modified by the subject matter expert.
  • Item Review Comparison — Resolved an issue where the comparison view retained the previously selected subject matter expert when navigating to a new item, rather than defaulting to the first subject matter expert in the list. The selection now resets appropriately for each item, defaulting to the first available subject matter expert. If an item was completed with no changes, the Default selection remains the only available option, consistent with existing behavior.
