v4.7 Release Notes

Enhancements

Pro! Back Office

Item Authoring – User Experience Redesign

The item authoring interface for Single Selection, Likert, and Passage item types has been streamlined by replacing the tabbed layout with a new dropdown-based navigation. All previously tabbed screens have been redesigned within the Item Authoring framework for improved consistency and usability.

Key enhancements include:

  • Immediate Persistence: Changes to classifications, references, and relationships are now saved automatically.
  • Controlled Persistence for UDFs: User-defined fields (UDFs) are saved when authorized users click the Save UDFs button.
  • Improved Save Architecture: Item metadata is now saved separately from item content. The Save button continues to save the item’s content only, improving overall performance.
  • Optimized Loading: Upon opening an item, only the content and comments are initially retrieved. Additional metadata loads dynamically when its respective section is accessed.
  • Streamlined Actions: The Clone and Move options have been relocated to the View dropdown for easier access, but their functionality remains unchanged.

Item Review Project – Enhanced Flexibility for Closing Review Projects

In previous versions of Pro!, review projects could only be closed if no items were in an active review round. With Pro! v4.7, this restriction has been lifted—project managers can now close review projects even if items are still under active review, allowing greater flexibility to align with your workflow.

When closing a project with active items:

  • A warning is displayed, listing all items still under review.
  • Items in progress will not receive a vote or final decision.
  • The Activity and Event Logs will capture the forced closure and detail the affected items.
  • Closed review projects cannot be reopened; however, the project manager is clearly alerted and given the option to cancel the closure before proceeding.

Item Preview – Color Switching

To streamline item development and approval with accessibility in mind, Pro! v4.7 offers enhanced ADA support by enabling color combination previews directly within the item authoring interface—no need to publish or launch items in an ADA-configured test driver.

With the new Color Switching feature:

  • Authors can select from a list of accessible color combinations to preview items in real-time.
  • Pro! remembers your last selected combination, ensuring consistent previews across sessions.

Currently, supported color combinations include:

  • White background with black text
  • Salmon background with black text
  • Black background with white text

Pro! Remote Item Authoring and Review

Item Writing and Reviewing – Enhanced Comment Editing

Previously, users could only remove their own comments. With this enhancement, users can now edit their own item and passage comments during both the authoring and review phases. Simply click on a comment within the comment table to enter inline editing mode—your changes are automatically saved when you click outside the editor.

Additionally, Super Users now have full editing access to all comments, regardless of who created them. When a Super User updates a comment, the comment’s timestamp and creator information will be updated to reflect the Super User as the editor.

This improvement simplifies collaboration and ensures greater flexibility during content development and review.

Passage Item Writing and Item Reviewing – Show Answer Key

Users can now view item keys directly from the Passage Detail screen. When hovering over items within a passage set, the item key is displayed, providing quick reference without additional clicks.

Additionally, Primary and Secondary Reviewers are shown a list of items included in the active review round. When hovering over an item in this list, the item’s stem and answer key are revealed, improving accessibility to essential item information.

Item Preview – Show Answer Key

Item Writers, Primary Reviewers, and Secondary Reviewers can now view item keys while previewing discrete items and passage sets. This enhancement improves transparency during the development and review process. The feature is configurable by section, allowing programs to control whether item keys are visible during preview, supporting use cases where limiting access to answer keys is preferred.

Passage Item Writing – Passage Detail Preview

To support more efficient case set development, a Preview button has been added to the Passage Detail authoring page. This allows authors to preview the passage along with its associated items, even while working independently of the items.

Item Writing – Submission Rollback for Super Users

Previously, once a passage or item was submitted and placed in a Pending status, it could no longer be edited by the original item writer or Super User. With this update, remote item writing has been enhanced to allow Super Users to roll back the submission of both passage sets and discrete items.

This functionality enables Super Users to return content to the original author for additional edits before advancing it further in the workflow. Rollback is only available for items in Pending status and not currently included in an open item review project.

Key details:

  • Any post-submission modifications made within the Pro! Back Office are retained in the item content.
  • Upon resubmission, a new version is created, and the item is returned to the project’s Submitted queue.
  • All rollback and resubmission actions are fully logged in the activity log for transparency and traceability.

Item Writing – Super Users Create Items for all Passages

Previously, only the original item writer who created a passage could add response items to it. With this update, Super Users now have the ability to create new items under any passage, regardless of ownership.

Enhancements include:

  • On the Item Listing screen within the Project Detail view, the Passage dropdown now displays all passages, not just those created by the current user.
  • On the Passage Detail screen, Super Users will now see the Create Item button for all passages.
  • When a Super User creates a new item, they are automatically set as the author.

Item Writing – Super User can assign items to Passages

This update allows Super Users to associate any existing item with any passage, regardless of item ownership. When viewing a discrete item, Super Users will now see all passages within the project when selecting Click to Assign Passage.
