In honor of Blood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Strasz’s Princeton and Boca Raton offices recently hosted Swab Parties. The goal of a Swab Party is to increase registration in the National Bone Marrow Registry, which matches patients with donors, to give patients more hope of finding a perfect bone marrow donor.
Did you know that, every 4 minutes, an American is diagnosed with a blood cancer? Only 30% of all patients are able to find a compatible bone marrow donor in their family, and 6 out of 10 patients can’t find a bone marrow donor on the national registry.

The Swab Parties consisted of Strasz employees filling out paperwork to place themselves on the registry, and then swabbing the inside of their cheeks with Q-tips. The swabs were sent to the registry to be analyzed for markers. Doctors search the registry for markers that match their patients.
Thanks to all of our participants who registered to become potential life-saving bone marrow donors!
