Businesses typically put customer happiness above all else and this is essential for a successful business. But what motivates the employees to deliver on this promise that businesses make? What motivates an employee to deliver amazing customer service? This blog post explores how happy and motivated employees make for a healthier and more productive workplace.

Happy employeesI recently had a great customer service experience at the place I handle my banking. The associate provided exceptional service and went out of their way to help me with the information that I required. The person was upbeat, focused, genuinely interested in helping me out and seemed to be really pleased with the work that they were doing. While this experience has certainly cemented my loyalty to the bank, it also led me to think about the factors that made this person such a happy and positive employee.

These days there is a lot of emphasis on delighting customers and clients. I feel that if the employees creating the products and services are also happy at the workplace and proud of the work that they do, it is a win-win for all. If the employees are given a high level of satisfaction within their jobs and are inspired to put in their very best efforts, the clients receive the best possible products and services. This results in an increase of the productivity and performance of the entire organization.

I feel that happiness at the workplace is dependent on the employee morale. Happiness has a direct impact on the productivity and quality of an organization. There are several factors that can boost employee morale:

  • The first and foremost is being a part of an organization that has a culture of excellence and integrity. It’s great to work for an organization that places the highest importance on delivering excellent and top quality products or services that ultimately delight and enrich the lives of their buyers. If the employee feels that the work they provide every day has a direct impact on the quality of the product/service that goes out to the end user, they take utmost care and pride in their work.
  • Being recognized by peers and receiving validation for work well done is highly rewarding. Working as a part of a team that shares knowledge and teaches best practices motivates the employees to strive for excellence in everything that they do.
  • Organizations that actively encourage their employees to broaden their horizons by providing ample opportunities to learn and expand skillsets help the employee thrive and grow to their fullest potential.
  • Social interactions such as team lunches and offsite activities increase team bonding and make for smoother working relationships.

At the end of the day, each and every one of us wants to do a good job and feel proud of our accomplishments. Being happy and satisfied at the workplace goes a long way toward employee job satisfaction and the performance of the entire company.
