Going to a business conference can make you feel like a rock star – from being whisked from airport to hotel, to having continuous courtesy and attention from the organizers, to being lavished with goodie bags and gifts. But the greatest benefit to attending a conference is the opportunity to cultivate relationships. The author of this blog post tells us all about it.
Of course attending conferences is a way for Strasz to expand their business, however we are also aware of how much relationships matter in the industry. Not only do we want to prove we have a great product that can improve an organization’s internal processes and one they need to make their exam development thrive, but we also want to prove that we are a company with a trustworthy team of people behind the product.
The ASAE Annual Meeting is like the Christmas of all conferences. From pre-registration to post-conference follow ups, we are treated like celebrities and it makes our jobs that much easier. Walking off the plane to find a friendly face pointing you in the direction of a snack and a free bus ride to the hotel, having the exhibitor service provider hand you a power strip without skipping a beat because you forgot to pack yours, invitations to the learning sessions and parties, plus getting through airport security on the way home to find a goody bag full of snacks and gifts seem small in comparison to the grand events planned throughout the week, but these are the details that make my trip that much more worthwhile.
I have to say, I am not the type of sales person that only wants to speak with the contacts that will lead me to a sale (although I admit I would love that too). Every person that stops by my booth to chat is welcomed and I look forward to waving to them in the hall or seeing a friendly face when I stop at the café for a lavender latte, my new Great Lake favorite. I truly enjoy every compliment I get when my candy buffet is spotted… you never know who will remember you and refer you to their colleague even when they have no need for your services themselves… and let’s face it, I love the recognition no matter what.
I look forward to following up with potential clients after the conference just as much. My new contacts mean lunches, demos and happy hours. New relationships offer the chance to expand my knowledge of the industry as well as share my own ideas, propelling Strasz into the world of innovation and celebrating the time well spent learning the needs of each individual met along the way.
Many sincere thanks to ASAE, Hargrove, Crowne Plaza, Cobo Center, the Associations and Detroit for making the 2015 meeting a successful and memorable one!
